Scottish records of the name Torrens

These notes, dated July 1978, on the genealogy of the Torrance Family, are part of a series made by D. Richard Torrance. The copy in my possession is a carbon copy, so is slightly unclear in places. The notes are reproduced as accurately as possible.

If you find these notes of interest, please let me know! Or if you need further clarification, I may be able to assist. Note that I also run a mailing list on Torrens/-ence/-ance genealogy where you will find others who may assist you use the "Join Us" button at top.

Distinguished Families of the U.S.A.

D. Richard Torrance's notes also include a tree drawn from information in Burke's Distinguished Families of America. This is reproduced below.

It is noteable that the last names on the tree are Robert McIlvane T. and Robert Grier T. But Robert McIlvane T. was the author of Torrens and Allied Families, so it is evident that the tree is taken from that book, which unfortunately is, in the earlier parts at least, complete fiction. Burke was first published in 1947 - 9 years later than RMT's book, which was published in 1938.

See A Genealogical Scam? for more information on why it is fiction.

The tree that is affected is that of the book by Robert McIlvane Torrence, Torrens and Allied Families. The tree has been reproduced - see the Sgt Hugh Tree.
