It is a fairly common practise in the Bann Valley families to use a surname of a mother or a grandparent as a christian name. So we find Torrens not infrequently used as a forename, indicating a probable link from that family to a Torrens family. And of course, other family names used as Torrens given names. Some families even liked the idea so much they used other surnames simply as a tribute - though this is less common.

Indeed, such common forenames as Alexander, Archibald, Samuel and others probably crossed from surname to forename - but may have been forenames even before that!

Boyd

Torrens Boyd, born Lismoyle, Swatragh 1838; ord. an RP minister and was in several congregations inc. Ringras, Dromara, Knockbracken. He died 19 May 1925; had married Mary Simms, Tamlaght, co Derry (more likely to be Tamlaght O'Crilly, rather than Tamlaght, Agahdowey) and had six daughters who all died in infancy and one son William Simpson Boyd.
