Hi Diane and others interested in McIlfatricks and Kilpatricks that went to Canada and Australia from Crosslands.

I am a descendant of Thomas McIlfatrick and Elizabeth Dripps. Several of Thomas' family also immigrated to Canada, among them: his father, John, his brothers, John, William and James. Thomas' brother John and his brother William's sons Stewart and James Thomas Kilpatrick then immigrated from Canada to Australia. (I don't know if William was with them.)
I have a copy of a letter that Thomas' brother, John Kilpatrick, wrote to Thomas' daughter, Elizabeth Shaver, in California from Australia, Colony of Victoria, Heathcote Post Office 6th Nov. 1873.
I will quote some excerpts:"Mrs. Shaver, My dear Niece, I have been long thinking of writing to you from this far off land. I have been now ten years in this country and in nearly all the colonies.
I had a letter some time ago from your father or as I call him, brother Thomas and he informed me that William his son had been in California and that he had done pretty well. That William was now at home in Oxford (Ontario, Canada) and had bought a farm..........I am now teaching and have generally spent my time teaching since I came to this country. I have tried preaching but was compelled to give it up on account of my voice...........Your Uncle William's two sons are in Australia. Stewart Kilpatrick is living within thirty miles of me and is married to a neighbor's daughter of his fathers at home and they have 3 or 4 children. I have seen them all once except their last little one. James Thomas, your uncle William's other son I have not seen but I understand he is doing well. He is living in another state or colony."
  End of quotes from letter.

I believe that Stewart Kilpatrick was married to Nancy Gilmore of Boveedy, and the childrens names were Sarah, William and Annie. (Source: Linda Gilmore) Does any one in Australia recognize these names? I am fairly sure all of our McIlfatricks and Kilpatricks are related but don't know how to put them all together.
