Hi Morrison
I have a John Stewart c1773 and a James Stewart c1778, father John, in =
Gortfad (Garvagh). John Stewart married Nancy Wells and died 15 August =
1873, buried Garvagh. I don't know any more of James.

Hello all,
This is my first mail and it is a long shot. I am looking =
for a Stewart person or family who moved from the Garvagh area, =
according to family tradition, between 1740 and 1796 and settled in the =
area north of Dungiven, apparently being the first Stewarts in the area. =
The Flax Growers Register lists Mary and John in the parish of Bovevagh =
and William and George in the parish of Dungiven. A George took a lease =
in the townland of Derryork in 1798 and he lived in the townland of =
Gortgarn, both in the parish of Dungiven. In 1812 probate was granted to =
a will of George Stewart of Gortgarn. In the 1831 census there is a =
Robert Stewart and a George Stewart in Gortgarn. My GGrandfather was =
born in 1815 and by 1857 he had a farm in Derryork. He married Elizabeth =
Irwin about 1842.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Morrison Stewart
