Hi Jan: The Rev. John Smith who married Charlotte Galt was something of =
a folk hero as a result of his actions in the 1798 uprising (see =
Kernohan, 1912). He was also the nemesis of my ancestor Thomas Campbell =
who was a licentiate in the Presbyterian Church and later ordained as an =
Anglican priest in Canada. Between the two of them (loosely speaking) =
there were two church investigations, a civil action for defamation and =
one criminal action (see Campbell, LETTER TO THE REV. THE SYNOD OF =
ULSTER, Dublin, 1817).
If you are interested, I can provide more detail.=20

Hi members
Have found reference to this ancestor of mine in the Bann Valley=20
Rev John Smith (abt 1760?) and Charlotte Galt/Gault (abt 1892) (had 2 =
children Washington, Caroline =96 poss more)
Rev Smith and Charlotte died about 1821=20
Their son Washington Smith (of Moyagoney - abt 1810) married Jane =
Johnston abt 1815 (had 9 children =96 John, Washington, Charlotte, =
William, James, Jane, David, William, Isabella) - he was either a Doctor =
or witnessed births
Their son John Smith abt 1838 (Farmer) married Jane McElroy (had 5 =
child =96 William, Washington, Jane, John, Mary - poss more) - John =
Smith, it was said, had left his wife.
Has anyone any further reccords of this family
Would appreciate some information on them.
Thanks
Jan Russell
