Hello, I am new to the list. =20
Of the 101 participants in the Henry DNA Project connected with =
www.familytreedna.com, there are quite a number of participants who =
have Irish connections, many in Ulster and about 21 who have a 19/19 =
marker combination, which is said to be unique to the Bann River Valley =
Area. (Those 21 share a common ancient ancestor with a branch of the =
McCain family) =20
The project results showing earliest known Henry ancestors is found at =
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~henrydna/results.htlm The =
19/19 marker combination is show in pink. Those ancestors represented =
in the project with a variety of different dna results include a William =
McClellan Henry b 1853 Belfast; James Henry b 1765 Maghers, Londonderry; =
John Henry b 1681 Londonderry; John b 1735-45 County Down; Patrick and a =
Paul Henry Sligo; John Henry b 1800 Gulladuff, Londonderry; David Henry =
b 1670 Sligo; and a John Henry b 1690 Maghers Co Derry.
The Henry DNA Project is seeking one or two Henry participants for a =
dna test and would appreciate any helping in making contact with any =
long-established local Henry families who might like to participate. We =
are waiting for the results of our first participant whose connections =
to County Antrim. =20
The test itself involves scraping some cells from the inside of the =
cheek using a kit provided. There would be no cost to the participant.
We do have some specific needs for the participant.
1) Participants must be males who are direct line Henry descendants and =
still have the surname of Henry. (Y-dna tested is passed only from =
father to son over the generations)
2) The participant or a family researcher must be available for contact =
and coordination by e-mail.
3) The family must know their Henry family lineage for many generations =
- preferably with knowledge of Henry family burials in a particular =
location.
4) The participant must agree to have the test results and lineage =
published on our web site. Privacy can be protected. One e-mail =
contact person from the family can choose to get all results and =
communications.
I also have a personal interest in the project because my husband is one =
of that group of 21 Bann Valley participants. His earliest known =
ancestor was a Samuel Henry who was in Virginia at least by the early =
1770's. We do not know his family or his birth country. The given =
names in the family are Samuel, Hugh, James, William, John and Ezekiel, =
which, of course, are used in generation after generation in the family =
in America, also.
We would be most grateful for any assistance in making contact with Bann =
River Valley or Ulster Henry families and just discussing Bann River =
Valley resources and history. Thank you for the great web site.
