[Bann Valley] Connecticut 8 day shelf clock in a gingerbread case c1900
My grandmother in Culnaman, Co. Derry was given this clock on her wedding in 1912. I have identified it as a Connecticut 8 day shelf clock in a gingerbread case c1900 made by Seth Thomas in large numbers in the
mid nineteenth century.
I am intrigued about the availability of these clocks in rural Ireland in the late 19th century. How did they get there? Were they sold by pedlars travelling around the countryside? How did these farm labourers afford such a clock?
Anyone got any answers?
