The Rev. John Smyth of Kilrea was leader of the United Irishmen of County Derry in 1798. His Nephew at 85 Rev Thomas Smyth ,speaker at the home "Home Rule"meeting in London. Another uncle William -condemmed to death at a Drumhead court martial but escaped. However his ship was attacked and he was killed.
