Dear Dr Thompson
I am being really cheeky (but am so desperate for news of my Thompson
Family) who emigrated from Coleraine in the 1800's to South Africa
All I can find out about them is:::
They were WILLIAM THOMPSON born about 1820?   place?? (I just cannot find
info on him)
he married CHARLOTTE YATES born 1820,Their marriage was reported in the
Belfast newsletter and the Londonderry Sentinel  on the 12th Dec.
the marriage took place on the 1st December 1840.


     "On the 1st inst., at Coleraine, by the Rev. A. McCaldin, Mr. William
Thompson, of Laurelhill, to Charlotte, youngest daughter of the late Mr.
Yates, of Killowen,  Coleraine."

      My Great Grandfather, John Thompson was born in Coleraine in about
1844 (I cannot conifrm the date) he died on the 6th June 1892 in
Grahamstown, Albany, South Africa
     I have just received this info from www.
     His  brother William was born about 1845 in Coleraine, I have his
death notice and was able to figure the birthdate and the birthplace just
says Ireland.
     He died in Cathcart , South Africa in 1898
     I cannot find any passenger ships from Londonderry/Ireland to South
Africa.
     I hope you don't mind me asking if you can point me in the right
direction.  There is so much info for the USA and Australia.............
     I have a huge Thompson Tree of Thompson's in South Africa descended
from William and Charlotte Thompson
     Could I send it to you offline, I don't think the lists take an
attachment.
     (The South African ones don't.)
     I would appreciate ANY nudge in the right direction
