I should have remembered about Francis Johnston….I work in the Dictionary of Irish Biography, and we have a long article on him. 

As for links between Kilrea and England, Kilrea was owned by the Mercers Company from London, and there were back and forwards links on occasion; not involving large numbers of people after the 17th century, but you never know. London officials did come and do surveys of the estate, and they might have had servants, clerks, what have you
