Re: [Bann Valley] New members

Richard and everyone else, hello to new members and old! Richard, I am now
using a gmail address so this may await moderation; sorry!

My interest in my personal Bann valley ancestors continues at a lower level
than formerly, I have probably got all the information that I am going to
get! However, for the record, I am descended from Torrens, Kirkpatrick/
Kilpatrick, Wilson, Dunlap, Allen, Brown(e), Gilmour, Toye, Henry,
Thompson; possibly also Wallace, Smyth. All from north Derry, round
Garvagh, Coleraine, Macosquin. I have a good deal of local knowledge and
happy to try to help any unrelated querists from those areas.

However at the moment, I have a much more active interest in the local
history and genealogy relating to the 1718 emigration from the Bann valley
to New Hampshire and Maine and points onward from there. I am working
officially on it, at the moment doing a scoping study with colleagues,;
2018 is the 300th anniversary and it would be good to mark this
appropriately in the area. One way that we are interested in, is to link
descendants back to where they came from, and to establish contacts between
people who left and people who stayed. There are various ideas in planning
stage, and I am keen to establish contact with anyone interested in
genealogy who can help with the information we'll need. One option is a
1718 society, like a less formal version of the Mayflower Society; we have
a Facebook page.

So keep this in mind and get in touch if you are interested in helping!

thanks for the nudge Richard, and also thanks for hosting the list for so
long!
