[Torrens List] Military record
The Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin was like the Royal Hospital
in Chelsea, London; old and wounded soldiers were looked after there.
Apparently it also administered the payment of pensions, presumably
if the soldier came back to retire in Ireland
I found (in the National Archives index) a record of a Thomas Torrens
or Terrence b. Aughadery (obviously Aghadowey) discharged in 1814
aged 48
The index says where he served but it's not clear whether this was a
pension or a military hospital case
Anyone any theories about which family he was from? bearing in mind
that he may have said he was from Aghadowey and may in fact have been
from another local parish which he might have thought wouldn't have
been so recognizable' eg Kilrea
