Devine family document
I have in my possession the following documents and letters pertaining to the Devine famly of Youghal (and elsewhere).
- 15th May 1838. Birth certificate, George Devine, on board H.MS. Hebe, River Medway, Rochester. Parents: John Devine (marriner) and Mary Devine formerly Macer. Registered 18th June 1838.
- June 6 1838. Baptism certificate, County of Kent. George, son of John and Mary Divine of Chatham. Father was a marriner.
- 27th June 1867. Admiralty letter appointing George Devine, late of H.M.S Duncan, as Boatman in the Coast Guard, Youghal. Life boat: Victory.
- 19th Sept 1867. Authorisation (written on parchment) from Commiaioners of her Majesty's Customs, to sieze Goods, Vessels, Boats, Horses, Cattle, or other things.
- 5 Feb 1855 through 5 April 1869. Continuous service record, George Devine. Born May 1834. height 5 ft 4 inches. complexion: ffair. Eyes: Hazel Hair: Brown, no marks or scars.Lists service on board ships Colossus, Blenheim, Hannibal, Algiers, Asia, Duncan, Royal George, Frederick William, Valiant.
- Admiralty letter appointing George Devine as boatman in the coast Guard service.
- 15 June 1869. Marriage certificate, solemnised in St Mary's church, Youghal. George Devine (batchelor, in coast guard service) to Elizabeth Emma World (spinster). Both of full age, both of Strand St, Youghal. Fathers' names: John Devine and Thomas World.
- 1st July 1872. Birth certificate, Thomas George John Charles Devine at Strand Street, Youghal. Parents: John Devine (Coast Guard) and Mary Devine formerly Macer. Mary Young nurse present. Registered 11th July 1872.
- 30th May 1878. Authorisation for George Devine, a Commissioned Boatman of coast Guard to board fishing vessels.
- 6 April 1869 through 3 July 1892. Certificate of service in the Royal Navy. George Devine. Details of service on board ships Valiant, Royal gGeorge, Pallas, Audacious, Vanguard, Iron Duke, Topaze, Hercules, Bellisle
- 26th March 1893. Letter from from (Thomas) George John Charles Devine (1 Jul 1872 - 7 Dec 1901) to his parents George Devine and Elizabeth Emma (World).
- 31 March 1915. Newspaper cutting, obituary of George Devine.
- 1st May 1915. Grant of probate of Geo Devine's estate to Elizabeth Emma Devine. Geo died intestate 31st March 1915
- 9th June 1915. Will of Elizabeth Emma Devine
- Two letters from George Woodman Devine in Alaska to his Sister, Sarah Emma Devine in Youghal give an insight into life in Alaska around 1930.
- Two letters from Jack Fox, whose mother was Eliza "Moggie" Devine to his cousin, Sarah Emma Devine in Youghal
