[4qd-bannvalley] Kilrea families Ontario
Thanks so much to all those people who replied with lots of
ideas on Canadian connections. This sharing of information is
what it is all about.
Alison I have family of William John Reid & Catherine Watt -
couple of children baptised 1st Pres Kilrea, appearing
Plantagenet South Prescott 1880 census. Father William living
with son George & family-George apparently born USA
therefore migration about 1833-4. A child was born Kilrea in
1832. Son William J & family also at Plantagenet South.
I'm not sure how this Reid family fits into the Moynock families
but one of the children is named John McClelland Reid. The
name McClelland appears in child of Joseph Reid & Marg
(Peggy) Lennox & again in their son's family in Australia.
Also have family of John McNeill also of Moynock migrating to
Marlborough, Carlton in 1882.
If any of this connects to anyone I'd love to know.
Lynn I'm very interested in the Irwin family you mentioned. do
you have any further details?
John am interested in your Barrs- I have a Joseph Barr son of
Robert marrying Eliza Jane Irwin 1852 at 2nd Pres Kilrea. They
had several children but I don't know what happened to them
as yet.
A Joseph Irwin of The Diamond Kilrea -they had the hotel on
the Diamond in Kilrea centre - was an immigration agent in mid
1800s. So I guess he was the one who sent all our forebears
off on their journeys into the unknown.
Someone may also be interested in a book I purchased from
the Kilrea History group last year - "Forgotten Heroes of Kilrea
1914-1918. It gives details of Kilrea district born men killed in
World War One including several who fought in Australian, New
Zealand and Canadian forces.
Best wishes Pauline O'Keeffe
