Re: [Torrens List] Torrens in co. Clare, Ireland

Linde, Thats interesting. There are Knox,s living up the Vow area where there was plenty of Torrens Famillies. Its been a while since I done any Genealogy and particulary those lines of Torrenses. I will have a look through my notes on this family. My Nephew a year ago or more was Goalkeeper fro Linfield Football Club in Belfast, he told me that Linfield was founded by two Torrens brothers who lived around Belfast and originally came from Ballymoney, it could be the same Torrens family as the ones in Donegal who were all into Sports etc.

Thanks for this.

Derek.

Does anyone know about these Torrenses? In 1911 John Alexander Torrens, b. co. Antrim, was living in the household of his uncle Alexander Knox, also b. Antrim, in Ennis, Clare. The uncle was a grocer and publican, and his business apparently survives in Ennis as Knox's, a popular bar and restaurant over a whole building. John A. Torrens may be the father of Desmond Torrens, from Ennis, 'Des' who was a very well-known character, an Irish rugby international in the 1930s, and also a notable golfer; he got to the finals of the South of Ireland championship in the late 1930s.
